Clarkesville Street in Cornelia Closed Saturday for Bike Race

CORNELIA, GA – The City of Cornelia will be closing Clarkesville Street from North Main Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Saturday, February 27th beginning at 7 a.m. The road will remain closed until approximately 4 p.m. The purpose of the road closure is to accommodate the Assault on Mount Currahee bicycle race.

Approximately 200 cyclists will participate in the event, which begins at the Cornelia Depot at 10 a.m. and will also end at the Depot. The cyclists will follow a route along Front Street to Wyly Street/Dicks Hill Parkway to Lake Russell. When exiting Lake Russell, they will follow Chenocetah Drive back to Wyly Street to Front Street and back to the Depot.

The public is encouraged to come and watch the event in Downtown Cornelia. There will be a beer garden provided by Whistle Top Brew Company. The Awards Ceremony will take place at Natalie Jane’s Restaurant immediately following the race.
