Clarkesville releases Mountain Laurel schedule

Clarkesville’s bicentennial year Mountain Laurel Festival is happening this weekend. The celebration will honor the city’s 200th anniversary with a parade starting at 10 a.m. on Washington Street.

The city released the festival schedule this week. The day-long event will feature music throughout the day on the main stage on the square, at the Mauldin House on Jefferson Street, and at Pitts Park. Arts and craft vendors and food trucks will be located on the city square.

The day will also include guided tours of the Old Clarkesville Cemetery and an open house at the historic DAES Chapel on North Washington.

New this year, Volunteers for Literacy of Habersham County will host a Family Fun Fest at Pitts Park ahead of the 12th annual VFL Duck Race at 2 p.m. on the Soque River. There will be a bounce house, games, and kids’ activities in the park.

Golf cart shuttles will be available to carry festivalgoers from the square to and from the park and outlying parking lots.

The festival ends at 4 p.m., followed by a street dance from 5 to 8 p.m. on the downtown square.
