Clarkesville city officials will meet with business owners this week to lay out their plans for streetscape improvement projects scheduled for spring. Those improvements include replacing the city’s “old crumbling sidewalks,” according to a public notice from Mayor Barrie Aycock.
Aycock says beginning mid-February, Clarkesville will begin replacing the sidewalks along Washington Street starting at East Water Street and continuing to the public parking lot at Bridge Street. “Work will be done in small sections. Every effort will be made to minimize business disruption, but affected businesses may experience one or two days when access to their buildings may be restricted, or even blocked entirely,” the notice reads.
Aycock says the city will coordinated its efforts with business owners to keep them aware of construction schedules. “We hope to maximize the communication, and minimize the inconvenience as much as possible.”
The streetscape meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 20 at 8:30 a.m. at the Downtown Re-Build site (east side of the downtown square). Business owners who plan to attend are asked to RSVP to Mayor Aycock at [email protected].
Those who can’t attend are encouraged to direct any questions they may have to Mayor Aycock, Main Street Clarkesville Manager Mary Beth Horton, or City Manager Barbara Kesler. They can be reached through City Hall at 706-754-4216 or [email protected].
