A Clarkesville man was injured Wednesday when the tanker truck he was driving overturned on GA 365 North in Gainesville.
State troopers responded to the crash at 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 25. According to the preliminary investigation, Kevin Phillips, 49, was driving north hauling a tanker filled with feed grain. Troopers say Phillips ran a red light. He drove into the path of a westbound Jeep Wrangler that was attempting to cross the highway from Howard Road.
“The tanker truck struck the front of the Jeep, then began to rotate counterclockwise,” the crash report states.
The truck overturned multiple times.
While overturning, the tanker separated from the tractor and spilled feed grain across the northbound lanes of the highway.
Phillips was trapped inside the overturned truck. Emergency personnel freed him from the wreckage. They transported him by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. The state patrol did not release the extent of his injuries.
Hayley Davis, age 28, of Gainesville, was driving the Jeep. Davis and her passenger sustained minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital.
The wreck shut down the northbound lanes. Police rerouted traffic as towing crews cleared the wreckage. The highway reopened around 3:47 p.m.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety did not release information on whether charges are pending.
