A Habersham County Superior Court Judge has sentenced a convicted child sex abuser to 59 years in prison. Judge Chan Caudell handed down the sentence Wednesday in the case against John Marvin Nix .
A Habersham Count jury found the Clarkesville man guilty of one count of child molestation and 14 counts of sexual exploitation of children. Jurors reached the verdict on May 3 following four days of testimony.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Caudell sentenced Nix to one year on probation.
Nix was 53-years-old when he turned himself into authorities on October 30, 2017. Arrest records show he was originally charged with sixteen counts of sexual exploitation of children.
Assistant District Attorneys Meredith Davis and Ben Green presented the case on behalf of the State of Georgia and the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. The case was investigated by Habersham County Sheriff’s Investigator Richard Stein.
