A Clarkesville man is behind bars charged with three counts of possession of child pornography. A release by the GBI says 75-year old David Newcomer was arrested Wednesday morning after state and local authorities executed a search warrant at his home at 121 Oak Hill Lane in Clarkesville.
Agents with the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, along with Clarkesville Police and the Habersham County District Attorney’s Office were involved in the search and ongoing investigation.
The investigation was initiated in April when the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the illegal online sharing of child pornography.
The GBI is the host agency for the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children’s (ICAC) Task Force. The Georgia ICAC Task Force is comprised of 200+ local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, other related criminal justice agencies and prosecutor’s offices. The Georgia ICAC Task Force made 244 arrests in 2015 and has made over 1,600 arrests since its inception in 2002.
Newcomer is being held at the Habersham County jail.
