Police charged a Clarkesville man with aggravated assault and battery after he allegedly held his girlfriend at knife-point and cut her during a domestic altercation.
The incident occurred at the woman’s residence in Clarkesville around 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 27. Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville notified police of her injuries the following morning.
Police arrested 36-year-old Jason Montgomery. They say he was living with the woman at the time of the incident.
Heated argument turns violent
Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett says information obtained indicated Montgomery and the woman got into a heated argument. She told police he forced her from a bedroom into the living area of her home. The woman said Montgomery put a knife to her chest and threatened to “stab her in the heart”.
“Once in the living area of the home, the female attempted to defend herself, and while doing so, received a laceration to her hand from the knife,” Barrett says in a press release. “The victim advises that she then attempted to flee the residence through an exterior door, but while attempting to exit, was grabbed by her hair and pulled back into the living area of the dwelling by Montgomery.”
The victim told officers Montgomery then threw her down. She sustained more lacerations to her left hand and wrist while trying to defend herself. She also suffered various visible injuries to her face, neck, and arms.
Police charged Montgomery with aggravated assault and battery with a knife under the Family Violence Act. They also charged him with false imprisonment and tampering with evidence.
They arrested him and booked him into the Habersham County Detention Center.
