The Clarkesville City Council late this evening issued a list of emergency measures it’s imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The city formally adopted the recommendations made by the Habersham County Commission in its emergency order on March 28 and is reinforcing the governor’s executive order on social distancing and community gatherings.
The following restrictions are now effective in the City of Clarkesville and will remain in effect until April 30.
In announcing the measures, Clarkesville Mayor Barrie Aycock said, “The City of Clarkesville does not have adequate staff to monitor these restrictions at all of our businesses but violations may be reported to City Hall and will be investigated.”
- No business, establishment, corporation, nonprofit or organization shall allow more than 10 persons to be gathered in a single location if such gathering requires persons to stand or be seated within 6 feet of any other person.
- Anyone who is suspected to have COVID-19 because of their symptoms and exposure, anyone exposed to someone who has COVID-19, anyone with a positive COVID-19 test, those undergoing cancer treatment, those with chronic lung disease and those living in long-term care centers are expected to quarantine themselves.
- Restaurants in the City of Clarkesville shall close to the public except to provide takeout, delivery, drive-through or curbside service. All restaurant employees should maintain a 6-foot distance between each other and customers as much as possible.
- Certain businesses must close while these restrictions are in effect, as outlined in the county declaration. Exceptions may be allowed if the business can certify that no more than two persons are present in the room at one time and that all recommended health and safety precautions are being followed.
- No public or private gathering of 10, people outside of a household, is allowed. This includes churches, funerals, weddings and other gatherings such as substance abuse support meetings.
- Walking trails and open areas in Sam Pitts Park and the Greenway will remain open for now, but users of these city amenities are expected to observe the six-foot distance restrictions. The playground is closed.
- All city services will continue as usual. Public Safety personnel is equipped with the necessary supplies to keep them and our residents safe.
- City Hall is closed to the public. Our staff is in the office and anyone may call our front desk or City Manager Keith Dickerson at 706-754-4216 during office hours.
- City Council will meet as usual at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 6 at City Hall. Council Members and essential staff will be seated appropriately in the Council Room. Members of the press will be seated in an adjacent space that adjoins the Council Room. The public will have access to the meeting via Facebook Live.
