Clarkesville Public Works employee Michael Yearwood strings lights on the city’s Christmas tree. A record number of lights will shine in Clarkesville during the Christmas season.
It’s that time of year when the world falls in love with twinkling lights and Christmas decorations and you’ll find plenty of both soon in downtown Clarkesville.
Crews from the city’s Public Works Department are working hard, decorating the downtown square. They’ve wrapped a record number of lights around tree limbs, trunks and the big Christmas tree by the gazebo.
Public Works employee Michael Yearwood says there will be more than 20,000 lights hung by the time they’re all up – that’s twice as many as last year. Downtown businesses will also “shine” as merchants decorate storefronts with festive, illuminated window displays.
So when is the big reveal? Clarkesville will flip the switch on its record-setting light display on Nov. 25th, according to Clarkesville Main Street Director Mary Beth Horton. That same evening the city will kick off a season of holiday events starting with a special showing of the Christmas movie Elf at the Habersham Community Theater. Tickets are on sale for $8 and can be purchased through the community theater’s website at habershamtheater.org.
