Clarkesville Farmer’s Market Opens Saturday, May 7th

If you’re ready for some homegrown goodness but don’t have a garden, you’re in luck. Saturday marks the opening weekend of this year’s Clarkesville’s Farmers Market.

The market will again be located next to Old Clarkesville Mill at 683 Grant Street. It will be open on Saturdays – May 7 through September 30 – from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The market will be closed on Saturday, May 21 for the Mountain Laurel Festival.

Now in its fifth year, the Clarkesville Farmers Market is unique in that it’s a certified chemical-free outdoor market. According to board member Linda Davis, CFM’s mission is to connect farmers and artisans with community members in a way that promotes the health of citizens, the local economy, and the environment. “What we grow is what we sell on Saturdays,” she says.

There are up to 15 vendors participating in this year’s market. Each week they’ll be offering a variety of fresh local produce and handcrafted items. In addition, you’ll find plants, fresh cut flowers, baked goods, raw honey, jams and jellies and farm fresh eggs. Emphasizing the market’s local nature, Davis says, “All the vendors live less than a quarter tank of gas from the market.”

She says the market does not receive any city, state or federal funding. It operates solely off of vendor fees and sponsorships.

Now Habersham is a proud sponsor of the Clarkesville Farmer’s Market. To learn more, visit the CFM website at clarkesvillefarmersmarket.com and stay up to date with what’s happening on the market’s Facebook page.
