Clarkesville, GA – Habersham County’s “go-to” sustainable food source and community gathering place, located in Downtown Clarkesville, Georgia, is set to raise its tents for a fourth season, Saturday, May 2, at 9 am. The market can be found at the same address as last year, in front of The Old Clarkesville Mill at 583 Grant Street. The market operates from 9am‒noon and runs through October.
The Clarkesville Farmers Market has proven its commitment to providing the Habersham community with fresh, local, sustainable, and certified chemical-free produce, as well as a variety of local artisan foods, naturally raised eggs, and handcrafted items from area designers and makers. This year the market welcomes new vendors Taylor Creek Farm and Jarhead Farms in addition to local favorites: a frayed knot, Melon Head Farms, Berryvine Farm, Promised Land Farm, Dragonfly Bake Shop, Random Bantam Farms, Keep It Simple, Pure & Simple Handmade Soap, Liberty Farms, Silver Lining Herbals, Trillium Farms and The Willows Pottery.
What fuels this nonprofit organization? Passion mostly, as the market doesn’t receive any city, state or federal funding. The Clarkesville Farmers Market is a volunteer-run operation that relies solely on vendor fees and local sponsorships to operate. “Everyone’s here because we are believers,” says board member and participant, Ben Dockins, owner of The Willows Pottery in Helen. “The growers, vendors, and volunteers are all here because we believe in the market and supporting the community.”
Know your farmer, know your food could very well be the mantra of the Clarkesville Farmers Market, as customers get to know their growers personally. The market accepts only local food producers whose farms have been certified to be “chemical free” and emphasizes low food miles, traceability, and ethical growing practices.
On May 2, there will be live music from Sweetwater String Bandand a special guest vendor (All Occasion Flowers) as well as plenty of parking, food, and handcrafted items to purchase for Mother’s Day and Graduation gifts.
It’s a fun place to meet up with friends, shop, and enjoy a Saturday morning. The Clarkesville Farmers Market may be Habersham’s healthiest habit!
