It’s a new year, and Clarkesville is starting it out with a new city clerk. One of the first orders of business for town leaders on Monday was to appoint Julie Poole to the job. She succeeds Glenda Smith, who retired last month.

The Clarkesville City Council made several other key appointments during its first regular meeting of 2023 on January 9.

The council reappointed Keith Dickerson as city manager. Council members also reappointed the law firm of Sanders, Ranck, & Skilling, P.C. to handle its legal matters and reappointed Robert Sneed as municipal court judge.

The Clarkesville City Council also swore in members to the city’s Main Street Board. They include Veronica Bowen, Gerald Durden, Greg Guthrie, Christy Hinson, and Nancy Kline. Guthrie was absent due to a prior commitment.

The newly-seated board will assist in planning and promoting the Mountain Laurel Festival and Parade, Sip & Strolls, Mardi Gras, Christmas on the Square, and other events throughout the year. They will plan and promote activities in conjunction with the Habersham Chamber of Commerce, such as Business After Hours. The Main Street Board will also work with the Habersham Economic Development Council to promote and assist businesses coming to the downtown square and into the city.

The Main Street Board will work closely with Clarkesville’s Main Street Director, Colby Moore.
