At a called meeting on Wednesday, the Clarkesville City Council approved a draft of the joint comprehensive plan. The plan will guide development in the area over the next several years.

The joint comprehensive plan is a collaboration between Clarkesville, Habersham County, and the cities of Demorest, Alto, and Mt. Airy.

According to Clarkesville City Manager Keith Dickerson, the plan does not include any major changes from the previous plan. The plan was approved by the Council and will now move through the approval process with the State.

“Nothing huge has changed from the last Comp Plan. We were able to clean up a couple of zoning items that were missed last time,” states Dickerson.

The Habersham County Commission is also expected to approve the plan on Monday night. Clarkesville, Alto, and Demorest have all approved the plan, and Mt. Airy will discuss the plan during its March 4 council meeting.
