Clarkesville Christmas promises storybook experience

This Saturday, scenes from treasured Christmas stories will come to life in Downtown Clarkesville during “A Storybook Christmas,” presented by the City of Clarkesville and Clarkesville Main Street. Beloved characters from stories old and new will fill the streets in the annual county Christmas parade kicking off the evening at 5pm.  Expect to see Santa himself, the Grinch, Cousin Eddie, Polar Express passengers, Elf on the Shelf and more along the parade route!

Saturday night’s activities will kick off at 5 p.m. with the parade and continue until 8 p.m. The community Christmas tree will be lit for the season in a short ceremony at 6 p.m. at the gazebo by the old courthouse.

Throughout the evening live entertainment including carolers, dancers, and musicians, will perform on the stage by the tree. Hot cocoa and cider will be available for purchase, and there will be a bonfire with marshmallow/S’mores roasting.  Santa will be at the gazebo for free photos, and Windows at Woods theatrical performance is set to entertain crowds at 6:30pm.

If you are looking for those perfect Christmas gifts, many downtown merchants are extending their hours and offering specials on a variety of goods, including art, jewelry, clothing, home décor and much more!

This is a cherished tradition that celebrates the arrival of the holiday season and the magic of our downtown,” Mary Beth Horton, Clarkesville Main Street manager said.  “It’s an opportunity to bring the community together in a special way, and we are grateful for the sponsors and volunteers that make this event possible each year.”
