Hundreds of kids were treated to an evening of fun and adventure Thursday during the 9th Annual Habersham E-911 Children’s Fun Festival in Clarkesville. The free event at the Habersham County Fairgrounds included public safety demonstrations, simulators, helicopters, hay rides, a dunking booth and Trunk-or-Treat. Super Heroes were also on site to entertain the children.
Organizers say, beyond the fun, the event is meant to teach kids that public safety professionals are their friends. Judging from the looks on these kids’ faces (and their parents, too) it appears the message came through loud and clear.
Although at times the lines were long at particular booths, the activities were well-worth the wait. Face-painting, hapkido demonstrations, and wrestling were only some of the many attractions local businesses offered for the Children’s Fun Festival.
Demonstrations were offered to help children learn the importance of K-9 Units, and how these intelligent dogs help our community by Deputy Zigler and Deputy Thomas. Habersham HEMC instructed on the dangers of live power lines and the Do’s and Don’ts. Also used for instructional safety purposes, our local fire departments gave training exercises to show the dangers of fire and basic procedures to follow in the event of a fire.
If you were unable to attend this year’s Fun Festival, make it a must do for 2016!
