Habersham County homeowners have only a couple of weeks to sign up for a Homestead Exemption for the year if they don’t already have one.

“We just want people to be aware there is a deadline,” says Habersham County Chief Appraiser Joan Church.

Church says indications are that property values are going to go up again this year.

Local exemptions include:

  • Age 65 with no income restrictions,
  • Age 65 with income less than $12,000 excluding Social Security and self-contributed retirement,
  • 100% disabled with income less than $12,000 excluding Social Security (proof of disability required), and
  • Homestead exemptions as defined by local ordinance.

Since the normal April first deadline falls on Saturday when the Tax Assessors Office is closed, this year’s deadline has been extended until Monday, April 3.
