Charles Hill of Cleveland, GA is this year’s recipient of North Georgia Technical College’s Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education. He was selected for the honor from among six NGTC instructors who were nominated for the award by the school’s faculty and staff.

He’s been involved in emergency medical services throughout his career, even while on active duty with the US Navy. He has a BA in Communications from Ashford University and acquired his Fire Fighter and Emergency Medical Technician certification and the Paramedic Diploma from North Georgia Tech.
In a press release announcing his achievement, NGTC describes Hill as “Dedicated to technical education, NGTC, and to each student who comes through his program. He works diligently to keep his program up to date with industry demands. He sets goals for continuous improvement and insists on high quality program delivery.”
In recognition of his achievement, Hill received a plaque and cash prize made possible by donations from the Blairsville/Union County Rotary and the Clarkesville Kiwanis organizations.
“I consider representing North Georgia Technical College as the Perkins award winner to be a great honor, considering the nominations come from my fellow instructors,” Hill says. “I’m proud and excited to represent our college in the regional and state competition to show the rest of the state the caliber of instruction we provide here in the mountains.”
“Charles exemplifies the outstanding reputation our instructors have achieved here at North Georgia Tech,” says NGTC Acting President Dr. Mark Ivester. “He is an inspiration to his students, and he will represent his college and his faculty well in the coming competitions. We’re all very proud of Charles.”
Others instructors nominated this year include: Allyson Smith, General Education English; Sean McAuley, General Education English; Paul Long, Computer Information Systems; Tim Green, Accounting; and Jack Treadman, General Education Mathematics.
“We are proud of each of these instructors and the excellence in teaching that they represent,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Kathie Ivester. “The commitment and passion our instructors have for their students is amazing; they all exemplify an outstanding level of professionalism and enthusiasm for technical education.”
About the Award
The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction has been an ongoing statewide event since 1991, and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the award was renamed in honor and memory of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Central Technical College, who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death.
