A man who was critically injured when a pickup truck crashed into his moped at a stop sign near Flowery Branch High School has died.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says Christopher Lee Powell, 36, of Flowery Branch, died on Wednesday, May 17.

Powell passed away thirteen days after the crash, which occurred in the early morning hours of May 4 on Credit Drive.

According to the sheriff’s office, Powell was stopped on the moped at a stop sign, waiting to turn onto Hog Mountain Road. As he sat there, William Emory Olstead of Cleveland turned left from Hog Mountain onto Credit Drive in the wrong lane, striking Powell.

Powell was hospitalized following the collision which authorities say remains under investigation. Charges are pending against Olstead.
