Chandler L. Ward, age 89, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016.
Mr. Ward was born on August 4, 1927, in Banks County, Georgia, to the late Pless and Laura Hendricks Ward. He was also preceded in death by his sister: Viola Andrews, Monteen Smith, Bertha Smith, and Lessie Kesler and brothers: Albert Thomason, Cleo Thomason, and Dorsey Ward. Mr. Ward was a United States Army Veteran having proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired supervisor of Mount Vernon Mills with 22 years of service. Chandler was a member of Lamar Christian Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. He has been a Deacon and Elder for a number of years as well as a Sunday School Superintendent.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Frances “Francine” Bellamy Ward, Cornelia; several nieces; and several nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 pm on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Pastors Chad Holcomb and Bill Moody officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Habersham County American Legion Post #84, Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, and Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the funeral home.
