The Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Team is offering emergency tree removal assistance to people in Habersham and Banks Counties who were impacted by Tropical Storm Irma. A needs assessment team arrived at Level Grove Baptist Church on Saturday. Area Missionary Keith Ivey says the relief agency is available to help those in urgent situations. “We’re looking for trees that are endangering someone’s home, specifically,” says Ivey. “We’re trying to help people who have a tree endangering their house or blocking a driveway.”
Those needing assistance may call the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Team at 770-853-1275 during the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today (Sept. 16) and tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 17. The process involves an initial phone interview followed by a site assessment. Renters may request assistance, but property owners must give their consent before any work is done. “The homeowner has to sign to allow them to come onto and work on the property,” Ivey says.
Chainsaw teams will be assigned to those who qualify for assistance. Ivey says there are approximately ten trained personnel ready to help. He adds, “They will be here for a little more than a week at this point, depending on the projects they find.”
