County Commissioner, District 1 candidates are Stacy Hall, and incumbent, Sonny James. District 1 includes the Northeast and Southeast portion of Habersham County. The general duties of a Commissioner are: 1) to enact resolutions and ordinances for the general health, safety and welfare of the residents of Habersham County; to levy taxation when necessary to finance the operation of the county government: to plan for future public service needs; and to provide necessary services to safeguard the well-being and safety of the residents.
Stacy Hall is a former teacher and national collegiate athletic manager, overseeing the multi-media rights for the Southeast Conference. At IMG-College, Stacy oversaw a $114M budget with 80 employees. Currently, he is Director of Athletics at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, where in three years as athletic director, Stacy has nearly doubled the total amount of wins, quadrupled the number of NAIA Scholar Athletes, tripled the number of All-Conference selections and significantly increased sponsorship and scholarship funding.
Sonny James, incumbent, , has served as a Habersham Board Commissioner for eight years. He spent 30 years working for the Army & Air Force Exchange with assignments in the United States, the Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. As a Commissioner, Sonny helped plan and establish a new Habersham Courthouse, has helped save the Aquatic Center, and focused on future water supply needs for Habersham County via the UGA Archway Program. He has helped define the development of the Highway 365 business corridor.
