Candidates for Habersham County Probate Court Judge

Candidates for Probate Court Judge are Lorne Cragg, Jarvis McFarlin and Pamela Wooley, the incumbent.

The duties of Probate Court Judge are: administering wills and estates, appoint and oversee guardians and conservators, issue marriage and weapon carry licenses.

Lorne Cragg is a 1984 graduate of Habersham Central High School and is a practicing attorney in Clarkesville since 2009. He is a former business owner and feels that even though Georgia law does not require Probate Judges to be licensed attorneys in counties under 96,000 residents (Habersham has a population 45,000), it makes since to have an attorney as Probate Judge. Lorne feels the aging population of Habersham County requires a Probate Judge who is familiar with the law in regards to wills, estate issues, and guardians/overseerers. He is a member of Rotary International. He feels it is important to not avoid delays in hearings and other matters of the Probate Office.

Jarvis McFarin has an MBA from Breneau University and extensive experience in being an executor and providing guardianships. He worked with Standard Telephone for 25 years. Jarvis would like the Probate Office to become more involved in estate planning. He is an Enrolled Agent in estate planning. Jarvis wants to educate families in Habersham County about estate planning and how to prepare families for the eventual aging of parents and grandparents. He has been a Boy Scout leader in Cornelia and oversaw several dozen Eagle Scouts and was awarded Scouting’s highest award for leaders, the Silver Beaver Award. He is also a Board Member of Habersham Christian Learning Center.

Pamela Wooley is the incumbent for Probate Judge and is a graduate from Habersham Central High School and has worked for Habersham County for 29 years. She has an accounting degree from North Georgia College and State University. She would like to change the location of the Probate Court office from the basement of the new courthouse. Pam enjoys working in her yard and church work. She attributes her work as Probate Judge to her peers in the courthouse. She feels the county would be in the best possible hands with her as Probate Judge and feels her staff treats each person with courtesy and feels her hands-on experience has made her highly qualified for the position of Probate Judge.
