Camp Toccoa Open House April 23

Camp Toccoa reopens to overnight campers this summer for the first time in three years. The camp will hold an open house for prospective campers on Sunday, April 23, from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. (Facebook)

In the summer of 2020, Camp Toccoa, a 96-year-old summer camp in northeast Georgia, was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While day camp programs returned in 2021 and 2022, overnight campers have been absent since 2019.

This year, overnight camping is back.

Camp Fire Georgia, which runs the camp, has been working to prepare its facilities for the campers’ return, says Camp Fire Georgia Board Chair Jennifer Hutchins. Volunteers have hosted work days and open house events and have overseen facility maintenance and program planning to prepare,

“We’re very excited for the return of overnight campers this summer, as well as another season of day camp. We look forward to welcoming families for our Open House days and meeting with the community before the summer begins,” says Hutchins.

Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Stephens County, the 100+ acre camp has a lake, hiking trails, waterfalls, cabins, a dining hall, and a historic lodge.

Prospective campers and their families are invited to drop in from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, to see what Camp Toccoa has to offer.

The camp is located at 92 Camp Toccoa Drive in Toccoa.

About Camp Fire Georgia

Camp Fire Georgia, a non-profit youth organization, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The organization began with the formation of the Atlanta Council of Camp Fire Girls in 1923 and has undergone significant changes in the 100 years since. In 1975, the program was expanded to include boy participants, and the organization became Camp Fire Boys & Girls, and later simply Camp Fire.

“Over the past century, we have had the privilege of serving thousands of children and families in Georgia,” says Hutchins, “and we are committed to continuing our mission of providing quality youth development programs that help children reach their full potential.”
