For the second time in just a little over a month, there’s been a fire at the Sunburst Stables property in north Habersham County.

At 12:41 a.m. Tuesday (April 28) firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire at 251 Sunburst Lane in Batesville. When they arrived, they found a cabin fully involved in flames with a small woods fire burning nearby.

Habersham County Emergency Services (HCES) requested mutual aid from the White County Fire Department. Lee Arrendale firefighters also assisted. White County brought in a tanker. Due to the lack of hydrants in the area, firefighters shuttled in water to fight back the blaze.

No one was injured. The cabin was completely destroyed. Firefighters remained on the scene for over three hours.

This is the second fire to break out at the popular Northeast Georgia tourist site in recent weeks. On March 16, a blaze destroyed a barn at Sunburst Stables, killing several small animals.

At this point, there’s no indication the fires are connected, according to HCES Director Chad Black. Investigators suspect the barn fire was caused by a heat lamp used to keep ducklings warm. Still, given the circumstances – two fires at the same location in a short period of time – HCES has asked the State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate.
