(Cleveland)- This fall and winter, the burn permitting process may be impacted as a result of Northeast Georgia’s deepening drought.
White County Public Safety Director David Murphy has advised, due to the extremely dry conditions being experienced, the Georgia Forestry Commission has issued restrictions on outdoor burning of yard debris.
Murphy said, Phil Black, Chief Ranger with the Georgia Forestry Commission advised in an email, “until a measureable amount of rain is experienced, this restriction will be in effect. Campfires are permitted but we strongly urge that they not be left unattended or smoldering”.
Residents can check daily if the restriction has been lifted by calling the Georgia Forestry Commission Burn Permit line at 877-652-2876.
Also last week the US Forest Service said building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire outside of developed recreation areas is prohibited in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The restriction will be in effect until the end of the year.
