(Cleveland) – It’s just a month away for the planned first day of school for White County students. Teachers and staff will return on August 3 and students on August 14.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laurie Burkett says, ”We want to be as prepared as we can” as schools reopen for the first time since shutting down in March due to COVID-19. That is the primary reason that the start date for students to be in the classroom was pushed back a week to get things in place for what is sure to be an interesting school year.
Dr. Burkett spoke with WRWH’s Dean Dyer Tuesday morning and said they will have a new cleaning protocol and lots of things that need to be done before that first day. Burkett said they have set the goals and want to stick with them, but need to be flexible, as well, should any changes come down from state officials. There will be different settings for the classroom, lunchroom, and transportation of the students.

She said it is a very challenging time, but they are excited by the opportunity and possibilities.
The White County School System has provided each parent with the opportunity to have their child utilize Digital or Distance Learning for the school year. Parents are asked to let the schools know if you are interested in taking advantage of this option by this Friday, July 17. The school system website has a form you will need to fill out if you’re interested.
