(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Education has named a single finalist in the search for a superintendent of the school system. Board Vice Chair Charlie Thomas said, Dr. Laurie Burkett, who is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent for White County schools, was named a single finalist at the end an executive session during a called meeting Monday morning.
Thomas said they had a lot of interest in the job, even though they didn’t formally advertise the position. Thomas said Dr. Burkett has served the school system for the past 28 years and has held numerous administrative positions.
Under Georgia law, the selection must undergo a 14 day waiting period before the board can officially vote on making her the next superintendent.
Burkett will replace Dr. Jeff Wilson who last month accepted the position of Superintend of Floyd County Schools. Wilson’s resignation is effective June 30th.
