Burglary suspects nabbed outside Clarkesville convenience store

Four suspects are in custody in connection with a burglary in Demorest Friday afternoon.

Habersham County deputies were called to the scene in the area of Panacea Lane around 1:19 p.m. While enroute, they located the suspect vehicle. They conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a convenience store at the intersection of Highway 197 North and Historic US 441 in Clarkesville.

Authorities searched the suspects and their vehicle. Officers from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Clarkesville Police, and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office were on scene outside the store for several hours.

They recovered a firearm that was stolen in Toccoa, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Wurtz.

No other information has been released. Wurtz says the investigation is ongoing.
