What a way to start the New Year, at least if you’re a Georgia football fan!
The UGA Bulldogs led for only 1:49 the entire game, but that was enough to win the Peach Bowl and another trip to the College Football Playoff championship game. After a late comeback in the fourth, Georgia overcame an 14-point deficit to beat Ohio State, 42-41.
With less than 3 minutes left in the game, Stetson Bennett connected with Adonai Mitchell in the end zone. Jack Podlesny’s extra point put the Bulldogs up by 1 with 54 seconds left on the clock.
C.J. Stroud guided the Buckeyes downfield to within striking distance. With eight seconds left, and a crowd of 79,330 holding its breath, the Buckeye’s kicker, Noah Ruggles, missed a 50-yard field goal attempt, sealing the win for the Bulldogs.
With the win, Georgia advances to the championship game for the second straight year. The Bulldogs will face TCU on Jan. 9 in Los Angeles, trying to become the first program to win back-to-back titles since Alabama in 2011 and 2012.
