Broken Windows

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

One of my first cars, a Toyota Celica (if that matters), was missing the driver’s side window. I was just 16, so I didn’t really care. Every time it would rain, of course, the floorboard would be soaked. I did think about drilling a hole and just let it drain out, but I decided against that. Eventually, as winter came, I replaced the window and fixed the problem.

My first car is a good illustration of our spiritual life. We spend so much time cleaning up the mess that has come through our spiritual broken window. Every day we see the destruction of sin, and we try to clean it up, or let it drain away, so we can’t see it. Yet, it still leaves a terrible smell and a stain.

It wasn’t very smart of me to have a car with no window. I know that now. How smart are we, when we refuse to fix our spiritual window, that would prevent us from drowning in sin, stinking up our lives, and staining our lives?

The cost of a window, for a 16-year-old, is high. The cost to replace our spiritual window, that protects us, has already been paid. Jesus paid that price. Yet here today, in 2016, we still ride around in our lives, with no regards for the floods, smells, and stains, that have over taken us.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV) “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
