Brief, high elevation wintry mix possible Sunday evening

Chance of a glaze of ice

As our next rainmaker approaches on Sunday a brief mix of rain/sleet/freezing rain is possible as the precipitation begins.

Despite what weather models were being shared all across social media last week, no big winter weather events are expected for at least the next 5-7 days. The only chance for any wintry weather for most of us will come on Sunday evening and early overnight as our next weather system approaches.

An area of precipitation is expected to move in from the west on Sunday ahead of our next major cold front.

Simulated radar Sunday

This precipitation could begin briefly as a sleet/freezing rain mix across the higher elevations. The animation below shows this potential as the pink that shows up on the map as the rain moves through.

Precipitation type Sunday

No major accumulation or problems are expected but we could see a brief glaze of ice develop on elevated surfaces like porches, stairs and sidewalks. This is expected to be limited to the higher elevations, mainly across Fannin, Gilmer and Union Counties although parts of Rabun, Towns, Northern Lumpkin and Northern Dawson.

Total freezing rain possibility

Temperatures will rise well above freezing region-wide by Monday morning with just a miserable, cold rain expected.
