Breathe easier during allergy season

Well, you know the saying “April showers bring May flowers.” But blooming flowers and the change in weather also can cause sneezing, coughing and itchy eyes. If you’re one of the millions of Americans who suffer from allergies, here are some tips for breathing a little easier during allergy season.

  • Avoid common allergens such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold, latex and certain foods.
  • Avoid high pollen exposure times – dawn and dusk
  • Keep car windows closed when you are driving a vehicle. It is always a good idea to use an air conditioner at home and keep your windows shut at home as well.
  • Do not hang laundry out to dry because pollen and molds can collect on clothes and linens.
  • Do not cut grass or be near someone mowing his/her lawn. Mowing stirs up pollen and molds.
  • Try to avoid the outdoors when it is windy. The wind often stirs up pollen. If you have to be outside, wear a mask.

If you are an allergy sufferer, it is important that you visit your doctor or allergy specialist regularly. They can recommend drug therapies or allergy shots.

If you experience severe sweating, nausea, faintness, panting, rapid pulse rate and pale, cold moist skin – all symptoms of an intense allergic reaction – you should seek medical attention immediately.
