GBI: Father-in-law shot daughter-in-law in murder/suicide

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation today released its findings in the shooting deaths of two members of a Cornelia family.

Margaret Loudermilk Ansley

34-year-old Margaret Loudermilk Ansley and 70-year-old Roger Ansley were both shot to death outside Margaret’s home on Mud Creek Road on Oct. 7.

“Margaret Loudermilk Ansley’s death will be ruled a homicide and Charles Roger Ansley’s death will be ruled a suicide,” says GBI Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Williams. She says no additional information will be released regarding the investigation.

A family tragedy

Margaret’s mother Connie Loudermilk tells Now Habersham Margaret and her father-in-law had a long-running dispute. She says Margaret was in the process of getting a restraining order against him.

“He drove up in her yard with a loaded gun, shot my daughter dead in her yard and then picked the gun up and shot himself,” she says. “If my grandchildren had been home they might have been killed.”

Margaret and her husband, Charlie Ansley, would have celebrated their eighth anniversary on Oct. 23.

“They have two precious children who don’t have a mother now because of that man,” Loudermilk says angrily. She says the family is coping with the support of neighbors and friends.

“They only way that we’re coping right now is that we have good people surrounding us helping us.” Still, the strain of the tragedy bears heavy on Loudermilk’s heart. She says the family is devastated. “Her children were her main priority and she loved them more than life itself.”

Margaret Ansley was the co-owner of L & A Farms. She is survived by her husband and children.

Roger Ansley was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections. He is survived by his wife and son.
