A section of South Main Street in Cornelia was blocked for several hours on Monday after a train and vehicle collided. Authorities say no one was injured in the collision, which was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6.
Photos from the scene show the train engine stopped and the vehicle’s rear crushed in. Officials tell Now Habersham the train collided with the car at the South Main Street rail crossing. The Norfolk Southern freight train pushed the vehicle approximately 300 feet to the Wells Street overpass before stopping.
According to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore, the driver of the car refused to be transported to the hospital.
The Georgia State Patrol and Norfolk Southern are investigating the incident.
