The following message is from Habersham County Superintendent of Schools Matthew Cooper:
Governor Kemp has issued an executive order closing all schools in Georgia for the remainder of the year. The Habersham County School System will continue serving its students with our food and “learning from home” plans.
Spring Break will still be observed by students and staff April 6-10.
Due to the closing of schools for the remainder of the year, Habersham Central Principal Jonathan Stribling has announced that the prom will not take place as scheduled on April 25th. The Habersham Central administration will make a decision at a later time as to whether or not other options are possible regarding prom.
Graduation is still scheduled for Friday, May 22nd at 8:00 p.m. in Raider Stadium. The state-wide schools closure will expire for Habersham County at 3:12 p.m. on May 22nd, unless other orders are issued by the governor. If graduation cannot be held on May 22nd, it will be held sometime during the summer. At this point, we will continue to hold out hope that by May 22nd it is safe enough here in Habersham County to hold graduation on the originally scheduled date.
All spring athletics have been canceled for the remainder of the year. The school system expects to receive direction at a later time from the Georgia High School Association regarding when fall sports can begin their practices.
Governor Kemp has also issued a shelter in place order for the entire state of Georgia beginning this Friday. The Habersham County School System urges all of our families to heed this order and to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and to keep the virus from spreading here in our home county.
