Friends have set up an online fundraiser for the Habersham County woman whose home was destroyed by fire on Sunday.

On the popular crowdfunding site Go Fund Me, Chris Autry writes:

“On November 27, Sandy Lyndon’s yurt caught on fire and then spread to her nearby home. She has just recently been in the process of moving from her yurt to her newly built “tiny house”. Sadly, she has lost everything that she owns.”

Lyndon is the founder of Homestead Recovery Residence for Women which is located on Alec Mountain Road north of Clarkesville, not far from where her house burned.

According to the Homestead website, “Homestead was a dream at one time for Sandy. Through hard work and a lot of patience Homestead has developed into a life saving experience for not only her but the women that have come through the recovery program Homestead has to offer.”

Sandy’s work helping others is a big reason why friends and people in the community are now reaching out to help her in her time of need.

“We are setting up this page to try and do our part durring this holiday season to give back to a woman who has so freely given to many of us,” Autry’s post reads. “So please let us all come together and show some love and support to a woman that has devoted her life to helping others. No donation is too big or too small. Every dollar counts.”

While Lyndon suffered a great loss in the fire, things could have been worse. The fire spread to the woods surrounding her home and, if not for a quick response from firefighters, could have resulted in a potentially devastating forest fire.

Outdoor fires pose a substantial threat now due to extreme dry conditions caused by the drought.

Firefighters from Habersham County, Clarkesville and Lee Arrendale State Prison responded to the scene around 1 p.m. Sunday. They used tankers to haul water from hydrants on Alec Mountain Road. Within an hour the fire was under control.

The fundraising goal to help Lyndon is $15,000. By early Monday $2,755 already had been raised.
