Habersham County United Way will soon be searching for a new executive director. Billy Boyd, who’s been at the helm of the local nonprofit for the past seven years, is retiring.
In announcing his retirement effective later this year, United Way cited Boyd’s many achievements. They include successfully launching two new fundraisers; converting the organization’s financial processes to an electronic format; and bringing Stephens County United Way under the Habersham United Way umbrella.
Thousands of people have been blessed directly by Billy’s commitment to lighten the load of those in need in Habersham County. Our entire community is deeply indebted to him.
In June 2020, under Boyd’s leadership, Habersham United Way set up a COVID relief fund to provide additional support to its agencies and other organizations that needed it.
“While 2020 proved to be a most difficult challenge with the COVID-19 pandemic, Boyd was gratified that Habersham County United Way was able to maintain its support of its 24 agencies,” the announcement reads.
Before assuming the United Way job in August 2014, Boyd served five years as the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia.
“We have all benefited from Billy’s compassionate heart, servant attitude, gentle persuasiveness, and work ethic,” says Habersham County United Way Board Chair Bob Cook. “Thousands of people have been blessed directly by Billy’s commitment to lighten the load of those in need in Habersham County. Our entire community is deeply indebted to him.”
The Habersham County United Way is a local, volunteer-driven organization that raises and distributes funds to eligible nonprofits meeting the needs of the community. One of its biggest selling points is that money raised locally stays local.
