The driver accused of running into and killing a 3-year old boy in a grocery store parking lot Tuesday in Cleveland remains behind bars. A judge denied bond Thursday for 36-year old James Holcomb.
Easton Cain died after being pinned between two vehicles. Holcomb is charged with DUI and first degree vehicular homicide. He was allegedly high on drugs at the time of the incident.
Holcomb, the son of White County District 2 Commissioner Lyn Holcomb, has a 20-year history of drug- and alcohol-related arrests, according to Channel 2 Action News. Family and friends of the Cains who attended Thursday’s hearing expressed both grief and dismay.
Outpouring of community support
Easton’s death and the circumstances surrounding it have hit the tight-knit Cleveland community hard. There’s been an outpouring of grief and support. A makeshift memorial has been set up in the parking lot of Ingles in Cleveland where Easton died.

Grief counseling was offered Wednesday to the community through White County Emergency Services and Cleveland Worship Center.
A Go Fund Me page set up to help Easton’s family has far surpassed its original goal of $5,000. As of Thursday evening more than $36,000 had been raised.
A memorial service for Easton is scheduled Sunday, at 3:00 P.M. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Cleveland.
