Bomb scare in Demorest turns out to be false alarm

Sheriff's deputies set up a road block at the intersection of Hwy. 17 and Daniel Road.

Some tense moments for residents on Daniel Road in Demorest Sunday as authorities were called to the area to investigate a bomb scare.

Captain Floyd Canup of the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office says a resident was cleaning out a camper she had rented after her tenant moved out and discovered what appeared to be the makings of a pipe bomb.

The woman called 911.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department responded. “We contacted the GBI Bomb Squad and brought out our own bomb sniffing canine,” says Canup.
