Boil water advisory remains in effect for south Clarkesville

A boil water advisory remains in effect for the south end of Clarkesville. The advisory affects city water customers along Highway 197 South from Railroad Avenue South including Ellison Street, Rosewood and Roper Drive.

Clarkesville Public Works Superintendent Jeremy Garmon says the advisory is in effect until further notice. It was issued last night as a precaution after a 6″ water main was exposed during repairs. The line sprung a leak after contractors laying fiber optic for Windstream hit it while boring under the road at Hwy. 197 South and Railroad Avenue.

Water samples have been sent to a state lab for testing. Those samples are expected to be returned by noon Thursday.

Until the advisory is lifted, those in the affected areas are urged to boil their water before drinking, cooking or preparing baby food with it. Water should be boiled for at least one minute after it comes to a rolling boil.
