Bobby Gene Black

Bobby Gene Black, age 73, of Clarkesville died Sunday, November 23, 2014.

Memorial services for Mr. Black will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Furman Lewis, Rev. Tommy Stowe, and Rev. Craig Ward officiating.

Born in Habersham County on November 29, 1940, Mr. Black was the son of the late Ross Black and Hassie LaPrade. Mr. Black attended Truett-McConnell Junior College where he received a BSA degree in 1960. Mr. Black spent 34 years of his banking career with Habersham Bank. He received the Presidential Citation from the American Bankers Association in 1987 and was honored by the Board of Realtors with them distinguished service award in 1988. Mr. Black had served as a Senior Vice President of Southern Bank and Trust since 2005. Mr. Black was an active member of the community. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served asdeacon, Chairman of the Building Committee, and as a Sunday School teacher. He served as the Clarkesville Lions Club Sight Conservation Chairman, President of the

Habersham County Chamber of Commerce,and Chairman of the Habersham EMC Foundation from 2002 until 2012  . In addition, Mr. Black worked with the Clarkesville Business and Community Association where he was instrumental in the redevelopment of downtown Clarkesville.

Survivors include his wife Janell Crumley Black of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in- law Chris and Tamora Black of Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law Melissa “Missy” and Michael Hay of Atlanta; brother and sister-in-law David and Bonnie Black of Marietta; sister Rebecca Booth of Gainesville; grandson Bennett Black; granddaughters Marley and Halle Black; and granddaughters Isabella, Amelia and Olivia Hay.
