The Habersham County Board of Education will vote on a major Chromebook purchase of 2,500 Chromebooks and 83 Chromebook carts at their upcoming meeting on Monday, Dec. 14. The BOE meeting will also cover a series of bids for repairs, financials and further information regarding tropical storm Zeta’s damage, and building new offices for the county’s special education department.
According to Habersham Central High School principal Jonathan Stribling, the Chromebooks have significantly increased student engagement. Superintendent Matthew Cooper says he views this purchase as “money well spent,” and that these Chromebooks are a “priority for every student.” This purchase would cover this specific technology need for 2 to 4 years.
The damages caused by tropical storm Zeta were minimal, and most repairs will be of no cost to the school system.
The Board of Education will put out bids for repairs to the roof of the Ninth Grade Academy, and the baseball field and tennis courts. These bids will stand for longer than usual to accommodate for the holiday season.
The BOE will also discuss plans for upcoming changes to the school district offices. The board is making plans to build new offices on the lower level to accommodate the special education department and move the nutrition offices to their previous space.
