As the regular season comes to a close, with many teams already head first into region tournament play, we release our official Power Rankings for October.

#1 (T) JEFFERSON LADY DRAGONS

RECORD: 30-8
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1
REASON(S): The Lady Dragons made a deep run all the way to the State Championship game, falling just two games shy of a 3A title. The 30-win season was littered with large win streaks and big-time performances by the offense and pitching. Jefferson closed shop with a #2-state ranking, and were the 8-AAA Region Champions.

#1 (T) BANKS CO LADY LEOPARDS

RECORD: 29-10
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2
REASON(S): Tied with Jefferson for our top spot in the final rankings, the Banks County Lady Leopards earned 29 wins on the way to the Class 2A State Championship game, falling to region foes Social Circle. Banks County had perhaps the deepest lineup in the state, and the power came out this year like never before. Tybee Denton was unbelievable, as was Jaycie Bowen, Kya Santiago and many others. The #2-ranked Lady Leopards were also the 8-AA Region Runner-Up.

#3 COMMERCE LADY TIGERS

RECORD: 22-7
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4
REASON(S): Commerce didn’t have the ending it wanted, falling in the Sweet 16 to Lanier County, but still, the one-time #2-ranked Lady Tigers earned a first round bye after an amazing regular season that culminated with a Region 8-A title!

#4 LUMPKIN CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 21-9
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5
REASON(S): The Lady Indians notched a region 7-AAA Runner-Up finish, earning a home playoff series. However, Lumpkin fell to Ringgold in that opening round. Izzy Kinard, Brighton Harder and Natalie Robinson were just a few of the many playmakers that led these girls to a 21-win season and a #10 state ranking.

#5 STEPHENS CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 16-12
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3
REASON(S): Emma Whitfield’s senior season ended a bit earlier than expected, but still a Region 8-AAAA Runner-Up finish and a trip to state was a great feat for a fairly young program. The Lady Indians were ranked as high as #2 in the state.

#6 UNION CO LADY PANTHERS

RECORD: 16-13
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6
REASON(S): Union has a lot to build on after a fantastic 2018 campaign that just about saw a huge first round upset at Heard County as the #4 team out of 8-AA. The Lady Panthers won 16 games under new head coach Stephen Mitchell and have many young talented players that will use this as a stepping stone on the way back to being a powerhouse program.

#7 WHITE CO LADY WARRIORS

RECORD: 15-11
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7
REASON(S): The Lady Warriors won 15 games in “life without Jessica Morgan” and made the state playoffs yet again, falling as the Region 7-AAAA #3 seed to LaFayette. There’s a winning foundation here that no doubt will continue.

#8 HABERSHAM CENTRAL LADY RAIDERS

RECORD: 10-14
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8
REASON(S): The Lady Raiders narrowly missed state again, finishing 5th in 8-AAAAAA. Gone now is Paige Cook, perhaps one of the best players in Habersham history, but the good news is Stephanie Thomas has some incredible talent already on the roster and the future looks bright.

#9 DAWSON CO LADY TIGERS

RECORD: 10-15
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9
REASON(S): The Lady Tigers impressed with a #4-seed appearance in the state playoffs out of Region 7-AAA. There are some young players here that will benefit from this playoff experience.

#10 RABUN CO LADY WILDCATS

RECORD: 3-16
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10
REASON(S): Rabun’s two-year journey hopefully will be water under the bridge come 2019, when this program would love to turn the page from the last two difficult rebuilding years in Region 8-AA, a stacked region to play in (3 Columbus teams came out of this region).

#11 TOWNS CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 5-17
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11
REASON(S): The Lady Indians finished fifth in their side of 8-A, and will hope to make bigger strides next season.
