Biker arrested after high speed chase through Rabun County

A Cleveland man faces numerous charges after leading authorities on a high speed motorcycle chase through Rabun County.

45-year old Eric Anthony Moss, formerly of Cornelia, was arrested Thursday after crashing his sport bike in Dillard.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Moss was driving a 2005 Suzuki GSXR1000 on US 441/GA 15 near Boggs Mountain Road when a trooper attempted to pull him over for not having a registration plate. After indicating to the trooper that he would pull over, Moss instead sped up and tried to outrun the officer.

Trooper 1st Class Jesse Owens reports he observed the motorcycle passing a vehicle on the right shoulder of the road, reach speeds above 100mph and weave in and out of traffic without signaling. Owens’ report states that at one point Moss “came within feet of colliding with an SUV” after running the red light at the intersection to the entrance of Home Depot and Walmart in Clayton.

Trooper Owens says he slowed down due to the traffic and the bike pulled farther ahead. Clayton Police blocked off the intersection at Rickman Road to avoid wrecks.

Units from Clayton PD, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and Dillard Police joined in the pursuit. Moss turned right onto GA Highway 256, struck a curb and crashed.

“I asked the driver why he fled and he stated that at first his throttle became stuck and when I pulled up beside him he thought that I was already chasing him so he continued,” Owens reports. He told the officer

The report states a Dillard Police officer on the scene found a jar containing suspected marijuana in Moss’ bag. A license check showed Moss had “multiple suspensions” and was driving on a currently suspended license.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Rabun County jail.

Moss is charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce, driving on a suspended license, fleeing or attempting to elude officers, no proof of insurance, failure to update license and numerous traffic violations.
