It’s Habersham County’s biggest fall festival and it’s happening today! The 29th Annual Big Red Apple Festival takes place Oct. 8th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in downtown Cornelia.
Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby says, “The Big Red Apple Festival is one of the most anticipated events in Habersham County every year. I’m very excited to plan and host this event and I’m looking forward to a good turnout.”
Activities this year include a Cornelia Kiwanis Club sponsored car show, a kids’ zone, along with arts and crafts, food and merchandise vendors, horseshoe competitions, apple pie competitions, live entertainment, and hayrides to tour Chenocetah Tower.
Several roads and sections of downtown Cornelia will be closed off for activities during the festival. They include Clarkesville Street, Stovall, Apple Tree Alley, Hodges Street, Chattahoochee Street, and the Train Depot parking lot. Motorists should detour to North Main Street.
This year’s festival is being sponsored by the City of Cornelia and Carter & Sloope. It’s made possible through the help of numerous volunteers. Tracy Rogers is one of them. Rogers works in Accounts Payable for the City of Cornelia and has volunteered at the Big Red Apple Festival for the past three years. “I like working this event because it’s fun and I get to work with other employees that I don’t get to see all the time,” Rogers says. “It’s fun to be helpful and enjoy the atmosphere.”
Admission to the festival is free but be sure to bring walk-around-money for food and merchandise.
