Betty Jean Whitfield, age 82, of Cornelia, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.
Ms. Whitfield was born on April 5, 1940, in Habersham County, Georgia to the late Ollie and Jeanette Waldrup Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Hunter; niece, Vickie Rowden; great-grandson, Asher Williams; and best friend, Doris Wilson.
Ms. Whitfield was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Cornelia. Betty was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known to her grandchildren as “Grandma” and “Nomi”. Not only was Betty a grandmother to her own grandchildren, she also looked after her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many others throughout the years.
Survivors include her daughter, Pat Tench, of Clarkesville; son, Jeff Tench, of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Kevin Williams; grandchildren, Christopher Williams and Hannah; Jerrit Williams and Breanna; Jebb Williams; Matalie Williams; Abe Williams; Avery Williams; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Zaelice, Kyran, Bentley, Kaia, and Henry; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Linda Griffin; Keith and Nancy Kimsey; brother, Clifford Kimsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Perry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, and from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
