Betty Jane Foster Fain

Betty Jane Foster Fain, age 79, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Mrs. Fain was born on December 23, 1943, in Stephens County, Georgia to the late Haskel and Essie Mae Purcell Foster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Phillip “Bobby” Fain; second husband, Leon Gage; brothers, Billy Foster, and Wayne Foster; and sister-in-law, Bobbie Foster.

Mrs. Fain was a beautician for over twenty years at Styleorama in Cornelia. After her time as a beautician, she and her late husband, Bobby, co-founded Cherokee Contracting, Inc as one of the first cell phone tower companies in the United States.

Betty Jane treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Grandma,” and at her house, paper plates were forbidden. She believed you should always eat off the “Good China,” not just on special occasions.

Time with her grandchildren was priceless; she spent many hours teaching and playing the dominos game Mexican Train with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for enjoying working outdoors with her flowers, reading, playing solitaire, and utilizing her “cure-all” vinegar for everything that ailed you.

She is the loving and devoted mother to her three daughters, Pamela Fain (Greg Coker), of Cornelia; Susan Gilliland (Ed Gilliland), of Hiawassee; Robin Pruitt (“Strawberry” Dennis Pruitt), of Chesnee, SC; and her step-son, Chuck Gage.

Betty was a special bonus mother to Michelle Dodd, Brandon Wade, and Tracy Vickers.

Betty had a very special relationship with her former son-in-law, Mack Key, who was a constant support to her anytime she needed anything, with or without asking.

She was the adoring Grandma to Mackenzie Key, Brianna Holland, Paul Barnes, Joshua Gilliland, Caleb Gilliland (Taren), Gabe Gilliland, Emma Gilliland, Clay Pruitt (Josie), Tyler Pruitt (Anna), Jacob Smith, Kailee Smith, Matthew Guice, and Kimberly Gage.

Blessed great-grandmother to Aubree Morris, Claire Holland, Carson Gilliland, Beau Gilliland, and Joanna Saribok.

Special children near to her heart, Ashley Posey, Morgan Waters, Danny Blackwell, Thor Franklin, Liam Franklin, Conner Dodd, Casey Dodd, and Micajah Vickers.

Cherished brother, John C. Foster, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Pastor James Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the funeral home.

Betty Jane loved to give big hugs and, in lieu of flowers, give a big hug to those that you love, just as Betty would have done.

For those that plan to send floral arrangements, please exclude lilies from arrangements due to allergies within the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, North Chapel, at 245 Central Avenue, Demorest, Georgia 30535.
