Ben Lewis “B.L.” Oliver

Ben Lewis “B.L.” Oliver, age 90, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

Mr. Oliver was born on February 7, 1934, in Hall County, Georgia, to the late Loy M. Oliver and Anna Black Oliver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Magdalene Lackey Oliver; daughter, Karen Oliver Turner; son, Ervin “Buck” Oliver; grandchild, Shannon Turner; brother, Rex Oliver.

Ben spent over 30 years as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute in Alto. After his retirement, Ben joined his sons in their construction business, bringing with him the same work ethic and pride he was known for throughout his life. In his later years, he found great joy in helping others with landscaping, often seen on his mower tending to family lawns with care. Beyond his career, Ben had a deep love for antiques and was a skilled wood carver. His creative spirit shone in the intricate toys he hand-crafted.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Every and Betty Ann Oliver, of Alto; son-in-law, Jeffery Turner, of Alto; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and David Evans, of Lula; sister, Betty Jo Wingo, of Gainesville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nephews.

Private Graveside Services will be held at Yonah Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.
