One of the greatest needs people have is discovering purpose. It all seems meaningless if our lives have no intent for being here on planet earth. If we are simply going through the motions in order to be, at the end of the day, just another grave marking in a cemetery, what is the point? It isn’t something I choose to believe. Why would anyone want to believe such?
And so, we read all types of books. We Google answers. We ask others. Because, we want to know who we are.
Society doesn’t help us to determine the answer. It forces us to see ourselves through the filters of other people, through the filters of life’s difficulties, through the filters of events of our past. Most of these filters are lies, authored by the world. The world tells us we do not measure up or we aren’t pretty enough or we are not successful.
The reality is, the One who knows us best is the One who created us. Shouldn’t we listen to Him?
Our true identity is how God sees us through the light of His creation.
Who are you to God?
- You are A NEW PERSON!
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
From this scripture it is apparent once we are in Christ we are a new person – all the old junk, the mistakes, the hurt, the issues – GONE! All things are new.
- You are HOLY
Ephesians 4:24, “…and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
You probably never thought of yourself as HOLY. If you grew up in church, there was Holy Communion, a Holy Alter, Holy Ground – but YOU?
- You are a LIGHT and you CANNOT be HIDDEN
Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
So shine…there is nothing more beautiful than light. That’s you! Do not let anyone cause you to believe otherwise. BEAM – because you are bright!
- You are a WINNER
Romans 8:37, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
Do not listen to anyone who tells you that you are a LOSER. They are DEAD wrong. You are even more than a WINNER – you are a CONQUEROR!
- You are CHOSEN and of ROYALTY
1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
My grandmother used to tell me that my freckles meant I had princes blood and that I had to be aware because a prince would show up and ask me to marry him. It was in retaliation to children who made fun of my “spots.” In actuality, I am a royalty and so are you. We are of royal lineage because we are children of God.
John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”
How glorious to be chosen and appointed! Were you ever the one at recess or PE who was chosen last in team sports? It hurts; but, not with God. He picked you! And He has appointed you captain of His team!
- You are His BEST
Ephesians 2:10, “ For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
My mom is an incredible artist and seamstress. She has made beautiful gowns, hand sewn and embroidered. She paints incredible works. Every masterpiece is carefully planned and thought over. You and I are the handiwork of God. Can you imagine how much more He has thought over us? Not only that, He has prepared our good works in advance, all we have to do is accept the privilege of doing them.
Hebrews 3:1, “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.”
Fix your thoughts on Him. Become who HE made you to be.
