Step into a world of magic, mystery, and enchantment with The Gainesville Ballet Company’s, Beauty and the Beast, a classic story of an arrogant young prince turned Beast (David Morton/Mo Stringer), who seeks someone to break the spell he’s been placed under by an enchantress (Kara Celeste). Fall in ‘love with the beautiful Belle (Dory Hatchett/Meagan Wade) who agrees to live at the castle in exchange for the release of her father Maurice (Bill Buchanan). Only true love can change the Beast and all the castle members believe Belle just might be the one.
The fairytale pits Belle’s handsome suitor, Gaston (Shawn Enright), against the Beast. You will be entranced by the castle characters who long to be human again: Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere, and Cogsworth. Choreographer, Susan Mcgraw, sets the stage for a night of intrigue and excitement at the charming Pearce Auditorium, Brenau University, 202 Boulevard, Gainesville, Georgia 30501.
The dancers bring life to familiar numbers under the direction of Diane Callahan, Director and Founder of The Gainesville Ballet Company since 1974 and The Gainesville School of Ballet since 1969. You are sure to recognize some of your favorite tunes and dancers. Callahan’s background and training is extensive under the direction of such famous teachers as Russian ballerinas Alexandra Danilova, Michael Panaieff, Maria Bekefi, and Paul Petroff. She has worked with choreographers George Balanchine, Eugene Loring, and Robert Barnett. Callahan danced with the famous Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso and later joined her company, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, and toured Mexico, Germany, Poland, Latvia, and the former USSR. She returned to the United States as a soloist for the San Francisco Ballet and later as a principal dancer with the Atlanta Ballet for ten years.
